These seem to cut closer and more efficient on the 1st pass compared to the Blue. The latter two brands were super-sharp, perhaps too sharp for my skin type, leaving me nicked, irritated, or both. I got these and the Gillette Silver Blues. This is one of the sharpest blades that I have used, close to a Feather but smoother than the Feather. I still have about 300 Silver Blues in my drawer, and only around 25 or so Platinums. It is in my top 5 or 6 blades that I like all time, but no longer currently in my rotation as my current number 1, the Gillette Silver Blue, bumped it to far down the list. My worst experiences were with the Van Der Hagen, Dorco Prime Platinum, and Feather blades. They are plenty smooth, but not as sharp as GSBs in my opinion. Others, such as the Treet Carbon Steel "Black Beauties", were good but tended to wear out sooner. Third Place: Astra Superior Platinum - Not as close as the others, but quite forgiving on my face.Ĭompared to other blades I've tried, these were the ones that gave me the best shaves and least nicking and irritation. Runner-Up: Personna Lab Blue - Nice and sharp and practically no irritation, and made in the United States. Both give me close, smooth shaves with no or almost no nicking even in my problem areas of the neck and corners of my mouth, and no irritation. So far my ties for number-one favorite are the Gillette Bleue Extra and the Super Iridium/Iridium Super. The Gillette Platinum with the dark blue border is sharp, reasonably smooth and not very forgiving. What's your favorite blade and why? How long have you been using it, and how do others compare to your favorite?
