Have a look at: /Īlso, the forum has a selection of user-contributed tutorials. There seems to be a dearth of tutorials out there on using Raw therapee. The closest thing is the gradient tool, and maybe the vignetting tools. There are no local editing tools (although there may be, eventually). You can use the latest versions (4.n) - they are stable. Also, RT has much greater latitude for adjustments (e.g., WB). Is it fair to say that RT is more precise than, say, Lightroom 4, but that LR 4 is easier to use than RT? just wondering if it is redundant though since I already have photoshop CS2?Įasy Mark edited this topic 113 months ago. Lightroom's Local Adjustment Brush seems like a very good alternative to Nikon Capture's control points. It seems to me that the highlight recovery / restoration in RT is something that can't be touched by other RAW editors. Is it fair to say that RT is more precise than, say, Lightroom 4, but that LR 4 is easier to use than RT? (I am assuming that you have some familiarity with LR 4. I have read through many pages of the manual and it seems like it is geared toward a mind that is more scientific than mine. ![]() One more thing: There seems to be a dearth of tutorials out there on using Raw therapee. Many new features have been introduced and preexisting features have been improved tremendusly (like noise reduction) /releases_head/windows/RawTherapee_WinVist. Maybe you want to try a newer version of RawTherapee. To adjust the skintone the LAB Adjustment module has some nifty features, you can adjust the luminosity by color with it and by default it is restricted to only affect skin tonesīut these things were only introduced in the past few months. You can dial in how much the sky should be darkened, how abrupt or smooth the transition between darkned and unaffected areas should, the placement and angle can be very finely tuned To darken the sky the digital ND grad filter comes into play. Would you use the HSV sliders to first find the right hue, then adjust sauration? In that case, how would one darken, say, just the sky in a landscape shot? Or adjust the skin tone in a portrait against a backdrop? "Gut so far that's the only tool I can think of right now that allows any kind of localized editing based on the location, not based on luminosity or color" I'm using a rather unstable testing build on Linux at the moment (4.0.12.2 I think)ĭirk Duckhorn (a group admin) edited this topic 113 months ago. Gut so far that's the only tool I can think of right now that allows any kind of localized editing based on the location, not based on luminosity or color One of the features I missed the most (compared to Darktable) is a digital graduated ND filter. Maybe version 4 has something like this?īut there seem to be some tools sneaking their way into RT. It seems that all adjustments are "global" across the image. I am using Version 3 stable release for Win 7 64 bit, and I can't even see a way to "select" a particular area of the image. ![]() Is that something I can do at all with Rawtherapee? ![]() I love Capture's U Point technology and the ability to make changes to selected / limited areas of an image. ![]()
